Roma began their Serie A season with a 1-0 win over Atalanta last Sunday. Aleksandar Kolarov scored the lone goal in the 31st minute to give them an opening day victory. Eusebio Di Francesco’s club have seen three of their top players from last season depart the team this summer. Mohamed Salah, Antonio Rudiger and Leandro Paredes all left for fees over €23 million, so it was good for them to win their first match of the new season. First-choice keeper Wojciech Szczesny also left the club after his loan spell. They face off against an Inter Milan team that has endured a relative rough stretch of league finishes in the past few years.
Inter haven’t finished above fourth place since the 2011-12 season. Like Roma, they also won their first match of the new season, with goals from Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic ending up in a 3-0 victory. Unlike Roma, however, they have largely held on to their star players up until this point. Both Icardi and Perisic have attracted attention from big clubs from around the globe. They have also added a few key pieces, including Matias Vecino, a former Fiorentina midfielder, for large fees. Inter are hoping to get back into the Champions League positions, if not fight for the title.
