Werder Bremen face Bayern Munich at Weserstadion on Saturday, Aug. 26. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Bayern Munich started their Bundesliga title defense with a 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on the opening day of the season. Werder Bremen opened their season with a 1-0 loss to Hoffenheim on a deflected goal.
Bayern got immediate production from recent signees. Niklas Sule scored with his head on a set-piece delivery from Sebastian Rudy to opening the scoring against Leverkusen. Corentin Tolisso also scored with his head before halftime and Robert Lewandowski sealed the win with a second-half goal. However, Bayern’s defense made mistakes at the back that led to Leverkusen chances. Bayern will be without Manuel Neuer, Arjen Robben, Javi Martinez and Juan Bernat. However, Jerome Boateng, James Rodriguez and Thiago are expected to be available against Bremen.
Hoffenheim outclassed Bremen, who showed very little offensively and were exposed defensively. With captain and free-kick specialist Zlatko Junuzovic injured, Werder will lean on Max Kruse and Fin Bartels to score goals. Kruse caught fire at the end of last season, scoring nine goals in the last nine games, while Bartels finished last season with eight goals and nine assists. This season will be a make or break season for American striker Aron Johannsson, who has struggled with injuries since joining the club from AZ Alkmaar. Johannsson has appeared in only 15 games, scoring three goals in his first two seasons with Bremen.
