Conor McGregor put up a solid fight in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, but Dana White would prefer that he quit while he was ahead in the boxing world.

Conor McGregor shocked the world on Saturday night, not with a victory against Floyd Mayweather, but rather for his solid performance in the boxing ring with one of the sport’s all-time greats. However, Dana White doesn’t exactly want to run it back.

After all of the worrying about the fight potentially being embarrassing for McGregor, White and the UFC, it all went pretty well, with the night going 10 rounds before Mayweather finished things off against the UFC great with a TKO.

At the post-fight press conference afterwards, White said he’d rather have the UFC’s prized jewel stick to what he knows best and stay away from the boxing world after his Mayweather bout.

“I would rather he did not [box again],” White said at the press conference after the fight. “This isn’t what he does. He’s a mixed martial artist, where he goes in, and he fights and he uses all of his weapons, and tonight he was only allowed to use his hands. I think he did great tonight, I don’t think he has anything left to prove. I would rather he fight in mixed martial arts.”

McGregor mentioned in his post-fight interview that he’d likely return to the UFC, and it looks like that’s obviously White’s hope, as well. However, White was right when mentioning that McGregor was forced to limit himself against Mayweather, which was evident throughout the fight as McGregor got caught a few times using illegal punches.

However, with McGregor, anything is possible, and he could likely create whatever he fight he wants to in either the Octagon or boxing ring for his next bout if he wants to.
