LeBron James approves of Conor McGregor’s effort against Mayweather

LeBron James was one of many NBA stars to give Conor McGregor love after an impressive effort against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Not a lot of people gave Conor McGregor a puncher’s chance against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday night, but the Irishman proved his mettle. You could even argue that McGregor was winning the fight through the first six rounds, but eventually fatigue set in and Mayweather won by TKO in the 10th round.
There were many celebrities in attendance, but a shoutout from an athlete like LeBron James probably means more than from an entertainer like Jamie Foxx or Steve Harvey.

LeBron has used McGregor as inspiration in the past, and so it was no surprise to see the NBA superstar in attendance.
Mayweather has said that this was his final fight, but after all of the money available for a potential rematch it is hard to believe him. McGregor hasn’t ruled out doing more boxing in the future, and it is easy to see why. He showed a remarkable ability to keep Mayweather at arm’s length for most of the fight.
Conor seemed pleased with his effort after the bout, despite his prediction that he would dismantle Mayweather early in the match. If the situation was reversed and Floyd had to fight McGregor within MMA rules, then this fight would’ve been over quite quickly. It appeared that it would go the full distance after around nine rounds, but Mayweather unleashed a series of punches that forced the referee to call the match in the 10th round.
LeBron has had his most dramatic summer since leaving Miami. His running mate Kyrie Irving demanded a trade from Cleveland shortly after the season ended, and the PG got his wish with a move to the Boston Celtics. That exchange is currently up in the air though due to Isaiah Thomas’ physical exam in Cleveland.

We don’t know yet what the future holds for Conor McGregor, but he gained a lot of respect this weekend for diving back into boxing on short notice after an illustrious MMA career. McGregor definitely proved that he could hold his own against anyone in the world.
