What will it take for Arsene Wenger to get fired?

These must be extremely difficult times to be an Arsenal fan. After their worst Premier League season in 20 years, the decision to bring back Arsene Wenger is proving very controversial. Arsenal have only three points after three games and are coming off an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield. This is the polar opposite of the start Wenger was looking for in order to instill some confidence and regain the trust of the fanbase. It didn’t help that Wenger decided start the club’s only two summer acquisitions on the bench. A vote of confidence in the transfer policy this was not.

Arsenal look broken. This is what it comes down to. There’s no conviction in anything they do, they have trouble acquitting themselves of the simplest soccer tasks on the field and they commit numerous mental errors. Sure, we can point to Hector Bellerin’s awful performance (he responsible for at least two of Liverpool’s goals), but it goes way beyond that.

No one on this team seems to care. Their playing style seems to be located somewhere between “I hope I don’t mess up” and “let this game be over.” Let’s keep in mind this is only the third game of the season and the Gunners have not been involved/distracted by any other competition. Considering all the rumors regarding Wenger’s future at the end of last season, this is the worst possible way to start a new campaign. Players seem uninspired, lethargic. It is painfully obvious to see the same lackluster effort and mental gaffes that we have seen from Arsenal in the past season. This doesn’t look like a team that’s playing for, or cares about, its manager’s future.

It will be interesting to see what it’s going to take to get Wenger fired from the club.
