Greivis Vasquez
G Maryland

Greivis Vasquez had an exceptional collegiate career for the Terapins, steadily improving almost every facet of his game. He possessed a rare blend of size and play-making ability, and shouldered the load for Maryland on the offensive end. Vasquez stands at 6-foot-6, which allows him to be able to play both guard positions, which would help his case in finding time on the court in today’s NBA. Although he put up solid numbers during his sophomore and junior seasons, his senior season was one to remember. He averaged 19.6 points, 6.3 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.1 3-pointers per game — great all-around numbers that earned him ACC player of the year honors, and the Bob Cousy Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top point guard every season.

While Vasquez possess plenty of upside, he does have a bit of concerns on how his game could translate to today’s NBA. He has a relatively thin frame, and could struggle defensively against stronger and more athletic point guards, or shooting guards if he is playing off the ball. He also struggled at times with turnovers collegiately, and will need to take care of the ball more. Granted he handled the ball a majority of the time at Maryland, it’s still a facet of his game that he would need to improve in order to be successful at the next level. His size and shooting ability make him favorable to have an effect on teams, and he has the potential to improve even more. Most teams are trying to find their floor general of the future.
