Rodney Monroe
G NC State

Rodney Monroe cracks the top 10 on this list for his astonishing ability to score the ball. He was one of the best players on the dominant NC State teams of the late 1980s to the early 1990s. He steadily improved his scoring averages each season, including increasing the amount of 3-pointers he made each and every game. Monroe’s senior season was certainly one to remember, when he averaged a healthy 27 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 3-pointers per game, leading him to be named the ACC Player of the Year for that season. He was more than just a shooter though, as he also excelled at creating contact and getting to the free throw line many times a game, shooting above 83 percent from the charity stripe for his career. He ended his career as the ACC’s fourth All-Time leading scorer, with 2,551 career points.

Monroe’s ability to put up points in bunches would certainly fit into today’s NBA, as teams are always looking to add proven scorers on their rosters. He is not the biggest guy, standing at 6-foot-3, so he could struggle a bit defensively. Monroe may also be asked to be a combo guard of sort, which would require him to learn how to be a bit more of a playmaker at times. There is a lot of room for improvement in that department, as he only averaged 2.4 assists per game during the course of his college career. With that said though, he has all the potential that teams look for at this point in the draft, and could end up being a steal if he ends up with the right team. Considering how he steadily improved is scoring outputs each season in college, one would think he could’ve had that same mindset with his playmaking deficiencies.
