Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has resumed throwing for the team, and is nearing a return to practice.

In what has been an injury riddled offseason and preseason thus far for the Ravens, they have finally received some good news. Joe Flacco, who has been battling back issues has resumed throwing again. Coach Jim Harbaugh announced that the quarterback is also nearing a return to practice, which greatly improves his chances of suiting up for week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Harbaugh remained optimistic throughout the entirety of Flacco’s injury, and this report helps confirm the promise he made a few days ago regarding his quarterbacks status for the regular season opener. The return of Flacco greatly improves the teams chances of winning, as he is far and away the best player the team has at the position.

Backup quarterback Ryan Mallett has received the bulk of the work with the starters during practice and the preseason, but he has not fared well in either to say the least. Flacco’s back injury was originally feared to be severe enough to potentially hold him out for the first few weeks of the regular season, but fortunately for him and the team that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore as he has looked much better in the two months since he originally suffered the setback.

Flacco has steadily improved the past few weeks, and has responded very well to treatment after receiving a second opinion on his injured back. We will pass along any more updates on the quarterback as they come along. Baltimore will travel to Cincinnati to kick off their regular season on Sept. 10, which gives Flacco a couple more weeks to continue to heal up and get some practice reps in with the team. The Ravens will be looking to improve on their record of 8-8 a season ago.
