Nintendo is shutting down the Miiverse service
After an almost five-year run, Nintendo will be shutting down the Miiverse service. This may or may not enrage some fans.
Nintendo is looking to move on from the Wii U for good. The console was around for almost five years, and although it did have some gems, it was disappointing overall. With the Switch faring incredibly and surprisingly well, it seems Nintendo wants to shift its focus. Not only is the Wii U finished, but so is a popular service among the fanbase: the Miiverse. It seems it will also be coming to an end. Tom from Nintendo shared the news on the Miiverse website.
In reality, there really is no explanation as to why Nintendo is shutting it down in the first place. The most logical reason is the company not wanting to integrate it onto the Switch and future consoles. Plus, with the Switch being something brand new and fresh for Nintendo, they want to continue to build on that. Part of why the Wii U wasn’t very successful is because it was too similar to the Wii. We’re sure Nintendo doesn’t want to make the same mistake again.
Check out Tom’s official statement below:
"Hi everyone, it’s Tom at Nintendo. I have an important announcement: On November 7th, 10:00 pm Pacific Time, we will permanently close the Miiverse service. We thank you very much for your amazing support. It has been a great privilege for me to serve as your Miiverse guide, and to see people who enjoy similar gaming experiences connect with empathy."

We won’t say we were avid Miiverse users, but we can see why this may be bittersweet for some. It wasn’t anything out of this world and in essence, it was simply a glorified comments section. Still, people had the ability and the freedom to be creative with their posts. There’s no denying it was a fun way to connect with others across the globe.
On the bright side, before it officially shuts down, you’ll still be able to download your post history. All you need is a Nintendo account, which needs to be linked to your Nintendo Network ID.
