The Out-of-Towner

There are varying types of the Out-of-Towner, but you know him when you see him. Odds are, this is this person’s first college football game of their life. The two most common varieties of the Out-of-Towner are either the high school buddy of someone who goes to the school that wants to tag along or the late 20 something significant other of an alum that went to this particular school.

With High School Buddy, Buddy wasn’t as overly concerned about his grades in high school. He is either taking a gap year or does part-time school at Commuter Community College. Buddy was always the life of the party in high school, or that’s how he views himself. He lives to sleep on the floor, creep on girls and cause a ruckus at the place Buddy’s bro is pledging.

20-Something has ZERO interest in sports. However, she is curious about what it was like for Hun to go to school at this big time school. After being asked to come along for a game at least three times, she agrees, but won’t wear the home team’s colors. She is both amused and startled by the entire experience. The box has been checked and she’s on to other things in her life.

The folks that go to these college football games try to be nice and accommodating to show the Out-of-Towners a good time. However, it’s honestly useless. The problem is that the Out-of-Towner doesn’t get that they don’t get it. That’s fine, as the regular fans will never see them again after this weekend.
