When asked by a fan on Twitter if LeBron James could ever become the greatest ever, Portland Trail Blazers All-Star point guard Damian Lillard delivered an honest answer.

We’re hours away from September, but that isn’t stopping the Michael Jordan and LeBron debate from surfacing. Two-time All-Star Damian Lillard isn’t shy about imposing his basketball expertise on Twitter.  From time to time, Lillard will take time out his day to answer questions from various fans around the world.

Earlier today, one fan asked Lillard if LeBron could ever become the GOAT.

In true Lillard fashion, he responded with a very honest answer.

If you’ve ever got into a debate with a huge Jordan fan, it’s easy to see where Lillard is coming from here. While Jordan is referred by the masses as the best to ever do it, some believe there’s no way someone could ever surpass him.

In recent memory, LeBron is the closest to challenge Jordan’s reign at the top. However, the one knock against the Akron native is his NBA Finals record. After falling to the Golden State Warriors once again, LeBron is 3-5 in June.

Nonetheless, LeBron has accomplished something that Jordan never did. The four-time MVP has reached seven straight NBA Finals. On the flip side, MJ led the Bulls to two different three-peats, something LeBron hasn’t done to this point.

At the end of the day, it seems to depend on what generation of basketball you grew up in. The older heads will typically lean more toward Jordan, while the younger generation will favor LeBron more often than not.

Debates are fun, but sometimes fans and media members alike should appreciate greatness for what it is. Jordan is Jordan and LeBron is LeBron.

Both are once in a generation talents.
