Runner-Up

American League

2

Corey Kluber

Pitcher, Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians have caught fire in August and are starting to run away with the AL Central. Frankly, they should be doing this, as the Indians are the reigning American League Champions, coming up one win short of its first World Series Championship since 1948 in 2016.

Their ace Corey Kluber is having another incredible season on the mound for them. He has a 6.0 WAR, having gone 13-4 in 23 starts. Kluber has a 2.63 ERA, a 0.890 WHIP and a 176 ERA+. With 215 strikeouts on the year, Kluber could not only edge out Chris Sale for Cy Young, but win AL MVP.

National League

2

Giancarlo Stanton

Outfield, Miami Marlins

Though his team is probably not making the postseason, we are getting one of the greatest power seasons from a major league in some time in Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. The four-time All-Star is having his best season and he finished runner-up in MVP voting back in 2014.

Stanton is hitting .295 with 51 home runs and 110 runs batted in. He is getting on base 38.7 percent of the time, with a jaw-dropping .670 slugging percentage. His OPS+ of 175 is off the charts. With a 6.4 WAR already, Stanton could win his first NL MVP at season’s end, even if Miami fails to reach the postseason.
