Scott Snyder is doing his part for Hurricane Harvey relief, donating some of his pay to help the victims in Houston.

If you’ve ever talked to superstar DC Comics writer Scott Snyder for more than a few seconds, you’re left with some unmistakable conclusions: he’s a deep thinker, and he truly cares about people.

Snyder is proving that with his actions this week. He announced on Twitter that he was donating his pay for writing Dark Nights: Metal #2 to relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. Considering that the series is DC’s big, epic event du jour, that’s probably a pretty nice chunk of change.

He also encouraged DC Comics fans to give what they could as well.

Other Twitter users immediately got in Snyder’s responses and wondered if Red Cross was the best way to ensure people in the Houston area get the relief they need. While that’s a valid and open question, it’s the thought that counts here. Snyder is one of the biggest stars the comic book industry has right now, and for him to forego some of his own salary is the kind of gesture that sets an example.

Other prominent comic book talents are undoubtedly doing what they can to make a difference in the wake of Harvey’s devastation, but it’s great to see Snyder publicly spurring people to do what they can. Again, if you’ve ever spent any time with him, this doesn’t come as a surprise at all.
