College Football Picks Against The Spread September 1

The first full weekend of the 2017 College Football season is upon us. I have been waiting for this for months! Yes, I am a MLB and NBA fan as well, but college football is still my favorite. It contains the passionate fanbases that seem to be lacking in most major league sports. And never underestimate the chaos created with 128 teams at the highest level as opposed to 30-32. And the best part? The regular season means something!

More from College Football Odds

For those of you that are new here, I put myself out there every week. For the last six years, I have picked every single college football game. Sounds easy, right? I thought so too. So I have picked them all against the spread. That significantly increases the degree of difficulty.

I take the average of the odds from the six major Vegas casinos and round that to the nearest half point. There will be no ties here. Ties are for the other football.

Some site will sell you top ten picks for a fee. Some will even give you a couple of free picks to lure you in. This is every game picked, all for free.

This contains the picks for FBS vs. FBS games only. It is too hard to get an accurate spread on games that involve 1-AA teams.

I will assign a point value “bet” on each game, between one and five points. That way you can see just how confident I am in each pick. Look for those at the end of each line. I am down 43 points over the last two seasons, but I fully plan to be back to even before the end of of September.

This is for entertainment purposes only! I cannot be responsible for you losing any of your worldly possessions, significant others, or limbs to a loan shark. I am a simple person. I cannot have that on my conscience.

We have 87 games this weekend, but only 40 if them are FBS vs. FBS matchups. There are eight total games today, but only six of them are FBS vs. FBS matchups. Let’s get picking!

Charlotte at Eastern Michigan(-13.5)(4): This is too low. The Eagles return a lot of offensive firepower from a team that was one of the biggest surprises in college football last year. The 49ers are still a fledgling FBS program. They aren’t there yet. Give me the Eagles on their super-cool gun metal gray field.

(8)Washington(-27.5) at Rutgers(5): Really? The Huskies return star QB Jake Browning, star RB Myles Gaskin, and leading receiver Dante Pettis from last year’s playoff team. Washington’s defense will have to learn a lot on the fly this year, but Rutgers wont be the team that exploits them. Rutgers will be lucky to not finish last in the Big Ten(14) East. They could play this game in the middle of Times Square for all I care. Washington by A LOT!

Navy(-9.5) at Florida Atlantic(4): I think having the name Lane Kiffin associated with Florida Atlantic is driving this line down farther than it should be. You can’t possibly replace Keenan Reynolds, but Zach Abey and Garret Lewis both gained valuable experience running this offense down the stretch last year. FAU wont know what hit them. Navy by at least twice this line.

Colorado State vs. Colorado(-3.5) at Denver(2): These two teams have developed quite an in-state rivalry here. They really don’t like each other. The Rams looked very good in their home opener, which caused this line to plummet. I think it’s down a bit too far. Colorado returns RB Phillip Lindsay, WR Shay Fields, and QB Steven Montez from a team that scared tee pants off the Pac 12 north last year. The Rams stay close, but the Ralphies win by a touchdown or so.

Utah State at (9)Wisconsin(-27.5)(2): There are a lot of new pieces in this Badger offense. The big question is whether Bradrick Shaw can continue the line of good to great running backs at Wisconsin. QB Alex Hornibrook returns, and the jury is still out on whether that is a good thing. If Wisconsin has to throw, they are in trouble. Utah State has a solid QB in Kent Myers and a strong RB in LaJuan Hunt. They aren’t a pushover. I’m taking the Aggies. This is too many.

Boston College(-3.5) at Northern Illinois(2): A major college team travelling to DeKalb is kind of a big deal. This line opened with the Huskies favored, but quickly flipped. Daniel Santacaterina had some growing pains, but RB Jordan Huff will help keep the pressure off of him. Boston College’s strength is defense, and that hasn’t changed. That said, this is not an easy place to play, and the Eagles struggled off of Chestnut Hill last year. Give me NIU.
