The Washington Huskies might want to do a better job of protecting star quarterback Jake Browning

The Washington Huskies surprised everyone last season by winning the Pac-12 and earning a trip to the College Football Playoff where they were defeated by the Alabama Crimson Tide. They’re aiming to get another crack at the national title this season, and of course a lot of those hopes rest on the shoulders of quarterback Jake Browning, a legitimate Heisman contender to start the season.

So with that being the case, you would think the Huskies offense would go out of their way to make sure that Browning is not harmed. They were definitely not doing well on that mission Friday night.

Browning and the Huskies are opening up their season Friday night, and they’re doing so far away from the west coast as they take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. In the first quarter of this one, with Rutgers holding a shocking 7-0 lead, Browning dropped back to pass and just got absolutely obliterated by Rutgers’ Darnell Davis who came right around the corner with no one touching him. Hell, no one even saw him coming, not even Browning.

Yeah, you see, if Washington wants any chance of making the type of run they did last season, you absolutely have to make sure that Browning is taken care of on every play. Breakdowns will happen, sure, but they can’t be this bad where you almost get the most important piece of your offense murdered on the football field.

Thankfully, Browning wasn’t seriously injured and he would return to the action.

Now the attention turns to something much more important like, you know, not losing to Rutgers.
