Watch as New Mexico State receiver channels Odell Beckham Jr. with a one-handed touchdown catch in Week 1 against Arizona State.

Desperate for action on the first Thursday night of the 2017 college football season? Those willing to stay up late (and also with rare access to the Pac-12 Network) got a glimpse at what could be one of the best catches of the year.

The Arizona State Sun Devils welcomed New Mexico State to Tempe for a Week 1 warm-up ahead of next week’s clash with Mountain West power San Diego State. The Aggies entered as a three-touchdown underdog, and fell behind early after allowing touchdowns on ASU’s first two drives, but responded with an impressive scoring drive in the second quarter.

On the 13th play of a drive that began at his own 15-yard line, New Mexico State quarterback Tyler Rogers connected with wideout Jaleel Scott on a 15-yard touchdown pass. What looks like a simple pass and catch in the box score was actually an acrobatic, one-handed grab a la New York Giants superstar Odell Beckham, Jr.

Rogers lofted a well-thrown pass into the back corner of the end zone where only his receiver could make a play. Fighting tight coverage from a Sun Devils defender, Scott reached up with his right hand to pluck the ball out of the air with just enough time to tap his right foot in the corner of the end zone to cut the deficit to eight. The Aggies failed to convert the extra point, however.

It was the first TD connection for Rogers and Scott in 2017, but the duo hooked up for a handful of touchdowns last season. Rogers completed 55.4 percent of his passes for 2,603 yards and 16 touchdowns with 12 interceptions as a junior. Scott caught 23 passes for 283 yards and a team-high five scores a year ago.
