Malta face England at National Stadium on Friday, Sept. 1. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
England are first in Group F World Cup qualifying, two points ahead of second-place Slovakia. On Friday, the Three Lions travel to Malta to face the already eliminated nation. Malta have lost all six of their World Cup qualifying games, scoring only two goals. England should pick up all three points, allowing them to possibly extend the gap between them and Slovakia in the standings.
Gareth Southgate called up the majority of England regulars for their two qualifying games. Against a very weak Malta team, Southgate might decide to give younger players more experience and experiment with his squad. Leceister’s Harry Maguire and Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah could receive their first international caps. Following the retirement of Wayne Rooney, Southgate said several different players will captain the team while he decides who becomes the next captain of the Three Lions.
