14. Huddersfield

Notable Ins: Steve Mounie, Tom Ince, Aaron Mooy

Notable Outs: Nahki Wells

Huddersfield looked like one of the smarter movers in this summer’s transfer window. At least they did right up until deadline day.

It was on the final day when the Terriers lost striker Nahki Wells to Burnley, per Juliette Ferrington of BBC Sport. Wells had his injury problems at Huddersfield, but the newly promoted club ought to have gotten more than just £5 million for a 27-year-old attacker this versatile and talented.

On the plus side, the Terriers have done a commendable job of bringing quality players into their squad. Chief among them has been Aaron Mooy, the classy former Manchester City playmaker who already has a winning goal to his credit in this young Premier League season.

Huddersfield manager David Wagner also proved his eye for a bargain when signing bullish striker Steve Mounie from Ligue 1 side Montpellier. Mounie scored twice to help beat Crystal Palace on the opening day, a solid early return from a frontman who cost £11.44 million, a relative snip in this inflated market.

On balance, Huddersfield have made smart and selective signings. The club has shown an adroit knowledge of different leagues, but may rue letting a player as capable of getting goals as Wells depart for a division rival.
