12. Bournemouth

Notable Ins: Jermain Defoe, Nathan Ake, Asmir Begovic

Notable Outs: Max Gradel

Like Leicester, Bournemouth have yet to make the most of their new signings. In particular, veteran striker Jermain Defoe has spent too long on the bench so far this season.

The 34-year-old goal-getter was signed to be the finisher the Cherries’ free-flowing approach play needs. Instead, he’s been left on the outside looking in for too long by a club yet to claim a point this season.

In fact, Bournemouth failed to score in two of their three league losses. The Cherries have also conceded five times.

Those goals have made a mockery of the hefty investment in goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and versatile defender Nathan Ake. The former Chelsea pair have so far struggled to solidify one of the more suspect back lines in the division.

Begovic, Ake and Defoe initially struggling shows the pitfalls naturally inherent in most transfers. However, it’s up to clubs to correctly judge how their prime targets may fare in new surroundings.

The early feedback on club-record buy Ake, as well as seasoned ‘keeper Begovic, hasn’t been good. Neither have the too few glimpses of Defoe.

Fortunately for Bournemouth and boss Eddie Howe, the season is still in its infancy. If this pricey trio can eventually come good, the Cherries will be much more competitive.
