The Florida Gators were trailing early to Michigan, but then scored back-to-back pick-sixes off of Wilton Speight to pull ahead

Coming into their season-opener against the Michigan Wolverines, things looked somewhat dire for the Florida Gators early on. Their offense had one nice play on their first drive, but then stalled and forced them to settle for a field goal. What’s more, the Michigan offense seemed to be in some sort of groove, jumping out to a 10-3 lead (and what should’ve been a 14-3 lead).

However, the beauty of college football is that things can turn on a dime. And that so happened to be the case for the Gators. Even better for Florida, their offense didn’t have to take the field for the momentum to shift drastically.

It all started with Wilton Speight, the Wolverines quarterback. Being let to fire it down the field ab it, Michigan again put the ball in his hands. In fairness to him on one play, he made a solid throw. However, his receiver couldn’t bring it in and the tip drill was on. Florida defensive back Duke Dawson came down with it. He then unleashed a fancy and impressive return to the house to make it a pick-six:

After that, Michigan again looked for Speight to throw it. This time, it was on him. He got pressured as he rolled to his left and rushed a throw with bad mechanics, this one landing in the hands of Florida’s C.J. Henderson. Though the return was less impressive, he notched another Gators pick-six and gave them the lead, 17-10:

Furthermore, the Gators were able to continue that momentum with a blocked punt. Unfortunately, it seemed to stop there as they were stuffed and then missed a field goal on that ensuing drive.
