The Georgia Bulldogs open the 2017 college football season as the favorite to win the SEC East, but they have a tough opponent in Week 1.
As the Georgia Bulldogs head into the 2017 college football season, they have their eyes set on winning the SEC East. However, their Week 1 matchup is no cupcake, much like the rest of the conference, as Appalachian State comes into Sanford Stadium on Saturday. The Appalachian State program has had their fair share of upsets in the past, including one ten years ago on the road against Michigan.
Last season, the Mountaineers nearly pulled off another upset in their season opener. Appalachian State went into Tennessee and gave the Volunteers all they could take, before losing a close one. The Bulldogs are hoping that they can avoid that kind of performance this weekend, though you can expect this Appalachian State team to be ready to upset one of the better teams in the country.

Georgia has one of the best running backs in the country in Nick Chubb, who should be in for a stellar season for the Bulldogs. Quarterback Jacob Eason started as a true freshman for head coach Kirby Smart last season, and has the experience to lead this team against a very tough 2017 schedule. The Bulldogs need to avoid the let down losses this season, but with the Mountaineers in town in Week 1, they have to be on high alert.

The Florida Gators have been the class of the SEC East the past couple of seasons, but that should all change in 2017. Kirby Smart has his team primed to make a serious run in the conference, which just may end with a matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game. For now, they have to get past Appalachian State, which might be a tougher task than expected.
