The Michigan Wolverines have decided to wear maize uniforms for the Week 1 neutral site game versus the Florida Gators. Here is how Twitter is handling it.
College football is under way. The 2017 season largely kicked off during Labor Day weekend. One of the signature games on Saturday was between two blue-bloods at neutral site AT&T Stadium in Arlington between the Florida Gators and the Michigan Wolverines.
While the Gators will have a staggering 10 players suspended for their Week 1 opener, the big story heading into kickoff has to be Michigan’s choice of uniforms. Michigan’s jerseys are one of the most distinguished in all of college football.
However, in this kickoff game against Florida, they have decided to go all maize. Yes, it is maize and not yellow. When did college football powerhouses decide that they were going to get in on the Color Rush phenomenon with the NFL?
It’s been known for a while that Michigan would be wearing different uniforms for this neutral site opener. Had this game with Florida been in the Big House in Ann Arbor, we probably would have seen the traditional maize and blue. Instead, we’ve got mostly maize with a little bit of blue accents.
To put it simply, it’s different. People typically aren’t on board with things that are different. It’s not like the Wolverines are going to wear these threads every fall Saturday going forward until the end of time. Of course, Twitter had more than a few opinions on the choice of garb for the Wolverines.
Here’s how social media reacted in real time over the all-maize uniforms of the Wolverines. Does head coach Jim Harbaugh realize that khaki pants do not come in maize? He’s probably not participating in this tribute to the greatest uniform phenomenon known to man known as Color Rush anyway.

Don't let Michigan's new uniforms distract you from the fact that they can't beat Ohio State.

Overall, the reviews are out and they are mixed on the all-maize Michigan uniforms. They take some getting used to, just like how Florida will need to get used to not having 10 players available for this game against a Big Ten behemoth in Arlington.
