Live stream information, and how to watch online as the South Florida Bulls host the Stony Brook Seawolves in Week 1 of the 2017 college football season.
The Charlie Strong era of USF football got off to a little bit of a shaky start last Saturday as the Bulls fell behind San Jose State early on the road. South Florida went three-and-out on four of its first five possessions and surrendered a blocked punt as well. The Spartans capitalized on good field position and jumped out to a surprising 16-0 lead.
However, rust and jet lag eventually wore off and Strong steadied his new quad. South Florida forced two turnovers in the second quarter and quarterback Quinton Flowers led the Bulls to four touchdowns to grab a 28-16 lead at halftime. Flowers finished with 212 passing yards and two touchdowns and added 70 rushing yards and a TD on the ground as Strong and USF moved to 1-0 with a 42-22 victory.
D’Ernest Johnson ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns, including an incredible 50-yarder and Darius Tice added 94 rushing yards and a TD. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Temi Alaka provided big plays in the passing game as Valdes-Scantling had a 50-yard catch among his team-leading six receptions and 91 yards, and Alaka scored on a 49-yard pass from Flowers.

The Bulls allowed 278 passing yards and three TDs through the air, but USF intercepted San Jose State quarterback Josh Love three times and the Bulls broke up 12 of the Spartans’ 50 pass attempts. South Florida stuffed the San Jose State running game and held the Spartans to 2.9 yards per carry on 38 attempts.

With win No. 1 in the bag, USF returns to Tampa to host FCS opponent Stony Brook. The Seawolves were just 5-6 last season, but started 5-2 (including wins over ranked North Dakota and Richmond squads) before starting quarterback Joe Carbone was lost for the rest of the season to a shoulder injury. Carbone is healthy again, and running back Stacey Bedell is one of the productive ball carriers in school history.
