Spain vs. Italy live stream: Watch World Cup qualifying online
By Adam Stocker
Spain face Italy at Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday, Sept. 2. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Spain and Italy sit atop Group G World Cup qualifying with 16 points. The two teams have a seven point lead over third-place Albania and Israel. In their first group stage match, Spain and Italy played to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 6, 2016. The winner of Saturday’s game will likely advance to the World Cup as the group winner. The losing team will likely advance to the second round of qualifying.
Italy are a strong team defensively led by former Juventus center-back pairing Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini. Even a team as offensively gifted as Spain will struggle to create chances against the Italian defense. However, the Azzurri might struggle to score goals, as they lack a proven striker. Gian Piero Ventura usually starts two strikers and will likely select Andrea Belotti and Ciro Immobile. Last season, Belotti scored 26 goals for Torino and Immobile scored 23 times for Lazio. However, Belotti and Immobile have combined to score only nine goals for Italy.

Spain called up a team that features a mix of young players and several players from the World Cup and European Championship teams. Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique continue to be Spain’s first choice center-back pairing with David Silva and Andres Iniesta operating in the midfield. However, the most curious player to be called up was Spain’s all-time leading goal scorer David Villa. Following the 2014 World Cup, Villa announced his international retirement and has spent the past three season with NYCFC. Despite the call-up, Julen Lopetegui will likely start Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.
