The Carolina Panthers didn’t waste any time taking a shot at the Florida State Seminoles following their loss to Alabama, bringing up Cam Newton.

The Florida State Seminoles did not have a great start to their season. Florida State, ranked third win the nation, took on the Alabama Crimson Tide at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday night, and the result was a 24-7 defeat. Even worse, starting quarterback Deondre Francois went down with a knee injury. The severity is to be determined.

On Sunday morning, the Carolina Panthers stumbled upon a tweet suggesting that Francois is another version of Cam Newton. The Panthers did not take kindly to that assertion, putting the former tweet down for the count.

Let’s be real, Newton was one of the best college football quarterbacks of the last 25 years. He beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl back in 2010 and led the Auburn Tigers to a national championship later that year. He then became the top-overall pick in the NFL Draft and has since won an NFL MVP and led the Panthers to a 15-1 campaign and Super Bowl appearance in 2015.

If Newton was leading Florida State, it would have had a much better chance (we’re talking college Cam, not modern day. That would be absurd). Before being injured in the fourth quarter, Francois was 19-of-33 for 210 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Carolina was playing no favorites with its troll, considering one of its best players, Kelvin Benjamin, is a proud Florida State product. Still, even he had to chuckle at the Panthers’ social jab.
