With the 2017 NFL season fast approaching, we take a look at the top fantasy options at the running back position for this upcoming season.

It’s finally arrived. Football is back, and we’ve had our appetites whetted with preseason play. It’s time to draft your fantasy teams, and this mini series provides a list of the top players to target at each position.

We take talent, opportunity, coaching, surrounding weapons, past play and many other factors into consideration here to determine those players who could be league-winners. In this top ten, we’ll cover the running backs.

Honorable Mention: Ezekiel Elliott

Just like the quarterbacks, we have a player who would be right up at the top of rankings, but instead they are a huge question mark. With Andrew Luck, it was an injury, but Elliott’s six-game suspension has thrown fantasy drafters for a loop. Where should you take him? Is he a wasted pick? A lot of this depends on your your roster is constructed. If you attack running backs early, you’ll likely be able to overlook Elliott. End up with a pair of receivers, and Zeke might arrive just at the right time for you as you “make do” with lesser runners in later rounds.

Whatever your decision is, make sure you take into account how much of a league-winner he will be when he returns. The fantasy football season is a long way, and I’d advise keeping Elliott highly ranked, as I’ll bet he’ll be on a bunch of playoff teams come December.

Players who didn’t make the cut: Lamar Miller, Isaiah Crowell, Carlos Hyde, Marshawn Lynch
