Calvin Ridley

WR, Alabama

The battle between Alabama and Florida State to kick off the season was a defensive slug fest for most of the night as expected. With Jalen Hurts only attempting 18 passes on the night, the Alabama receivers had to make most of the opportunities they were given.

Of the 10 completions that Hurts did have, 70 percent of them were by superstar receiver Calvin Ridley. The wide receiver looked like one of the top receiving talents for a reason and maximized his opportunities against a great Florida State secondary.

Ridley would finish the night with seven catches for 82 yards and one touchdown. A brilliant 53-yard haul was the big offensive highlight of the night in a game that was clearly short on them. That, however, is in part because of the defenses at stake.

A big thing last year for Alabama was Ridley’s production dropping with a young quarterback in the fold. Seeing Hurts and Ridley start to develop a connection right off the bat in a big atmosphere was certainly a big sign of things to come for the Crimson Tide.

Even in a passing game that was limited because of the strong running game, Ridley went out and still put up numbers against the best competition he might face this year. It was a great Week 1 for the Alabama product.
