Week 1 was a big opportunity for Josh Allen and the Wyoming Cowboys to make a statement. On the road against the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Cowboys came out with an absolute thud of a performance and one that wasn’t Allen’s best.
Fortunately for Allen, everyone is going to remember the horrible punt, but scouts will take a look at this performance against a big program. Allen only finished with 174 yards on 23 completions on Saturday.
Even worse was a lousy O/2 TD-to-interception ratio. His quarterback rating of 24.9 was certainly one of his worst. While it was a bad game, it certainly isn’t the end or doom for him as he chases a top spot in the draft.
The entire team just didn’t have it on the road against the Hawkeyes and against much better competition. Still, this was a big chance for him to go out and make a big impression win or lose on Saturday.
He didn’t do that and now he will have to bounce back with a strong effort in their next game. If there’s a major upside to him, he’s fearless and won’t be shell shocked when he ends up taking the field again.
