With the Preseason winding down and the regular season right around the corner, the majority of Fantasy Football Draft will happen within the week, here are last-minute tips to help you draft a Championship Team!

1. Value, Value, Value!!!!

Going into any Fantasy Football Draft, it is very important to assign values to the players you would like to target.  What I mean by this is, in what rounds are you looking to draft these players, this helps you not overdraft players. For example, drafting a running back like Ameer Abdullah, whose considered to be a low-end RB2/Flex play, in the 3rd round would be considered over drafting when you can get him in the 6th round or later. Going up a round to get a player you really want is OK, but anything more than that is considered reaching and can set back your entire draft as you miss out on high value players in those early rounds and must try to make up for it later in your draft.

2.  Be Flexible In Your Draft Strategy

In every draft there will be players you wanted that will be scooped up ahead of your draft slot, and there will be players that fall to your draft slot for whatever reason that normally aren’t available in that round.  Whether you believe in the Zero RB theory, the Zero WR theory, or one of the many other theories, going into a draft and saying you will only draft a certain way limits you and your teams chance of success. If you go into draft and say, “I’m only drafting running back the first two rounds,” and say Odell Beckham or Mike Evans fall to somewhere in the middle of the second round, are you really gonna pass up a chance to take one of the top 5 receivers in the NFL to take the 10th or 11th running back off the board or reach for a QB? Have a strategy in mind, but be ready to adjust it as the draft rolls on.

3.  Don’t Draft As A Fan

Almost all of us who play Fantasy Football have a favorite NFL team who we cheer for, mine is The San Francisco 49ers.  Now to go into a draft and declare that you must have players from your favorite team, or you refuse to draft players from your teams arch rival, is a sure way to limit your chances to winning your league. I learned the hard way that by doing that I was reaching for my favorite players in drafts and passing over very talented players just because they played for a team I didn’t like. When you draft, leave your fandom at the door, and you increase your chance to draft a championship team.

4.  Don’t Hold A Grudge.

There always are players every season who end up underperforming from their high draft status.  If you had one of those players on your team, it usually led to this statement, “I’ll never Draft that player again.”  I’ve uttered this phrase and always meant it, until I took the emotional part out of it and start looking at each failed draft choice rationally.  Ask yourself, why did this draft pick under perform? Did injuries hurt the offense? Bad offensive line? Bad Quarterback? No other offensive weapons?  Whatever you find to be the reason, when the next seasons draft approaches, do your research, were any  of this issues addressed in the off season? If they were, then reconsider your statement of “Never Drafting Again.”
