Week 1 of the 2017 college football season is in the books and here are the winners and losers of the newest AP Poll.

It’s hard to even believe that the college football season is already through one full week. While fans got to experience a teaser in “Week 0” with a handful of games, Week 1 was truly what everyone was waiting for. There were plenty of major storylines in the first week of action.

There were familiar faces taking control of offenses, and teams, in new places. Jarrett Stidham had his first game as Auburn’s quarterback, Will Grier with West Virginia, Malik Zaire with Florida and Anu Solomon with Baylor. There were more, but those are just a few.

As for new coaches, Tom Herman got off to a rough start at Texas, as did Matt Rhule at Baylor. Both fell in upset fashion last week and will hope to rebound moving forward toward Big 12 action. Charlie Strong is off to a 2-0 start at South Florida and Willie Taggart recorded a 77-21 blowout in his first game as Oregon’s coach.

Heisman contenders such as Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson stood out while Sam Darnold and Josh Allen took steps in the wrong direction.

The opening week was one to remember, and if it’s any indication of what to expect moving forward, the 2017 season could be one of the craziest in recent memory. Let’s take a look at which programs can be considered winners and which are losers from the release of the first AP Poll.
