College Football AP Poll, Week 2: Winners and losers
Loser: Texas Longhorns (No. 23 to unranked)
The Tom Herman era did not get off to a good start on Saturday. Hosting middle-of-the-pack Big Ten program Maryland, the Longhorns were expecting to finish with an easy win in Austin. However, that was far from the case as the Terrapins raced out to a huge lead early on.
In fact, Maryland was up 27-7 in the first half which was eventually chipped away at by the Longhorns. Texas pulled within three points, twice, and even looked at a 37-34 deficit at the end of the third quarter as a manageable one. Maryland responded in the fourth by scoring two more touchdowns to retake a 17-point lead.
Herman’s Longhorns would score just one more time and fall to the Terrapins, 51-41. It was already a head-scratcher as to why the Longhorns were in the top 25 to begin the season after missing a bowl last year, but now it could be quite some time before they’re back in it.

Texas is going to need to reel off a few wins in a row, including a victory at USC, in order to jump back into the rankings. Tough early blow for the Longhorns.
