23. TCU Horned Frogs

Ranking coming into Week 1: N/A

After dropping 63 points in their opener, a couple teams losing in front of them in the polls and the fact that they received the most votes out of any team that wasn’t in the polls to start the season, TCU should enter the polls this week after trouncing Jackson State this week.

Kenny “Thrill” Hill threw for 206 yards and four scores as the Horned Frogs led 35-0 at the break. Yeah, it was every bit as ugly as the score would suggest.

The tricky thing with TCU is, yeah … that offense can score some points. But, can they stop teams from scoring? The real bread and butter of Gary Patterson’s teams over the years has been hard-nosed defense and the ability to stop those high-powered offenses in the Mountain West and Big XII Conference. Both sides of the ball let TCU down last season, but it was bizzare to see TCU struggle so much defensively.

Still, there’s a lot of talent in front of them in the Bix XII. The Frogs are going to need Hill playing at a high level for more than just a few games in September. If he plays well and the defense can make some strides this year, then you can throw TCU into the Big XII title race.
