One of the most intriguing storylines of the summer transfer window was the dilemma at Chelsea surrounding the attempted transfer of Diego Costa. Now that a sale failed, he may have another chance at Stamford Bridge.
Back in June, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte reportedly texted the striker and informed him that he would no longer be needed at the club. Last season was somewhat tumultuous for Costa. He fell out of favor with Conte and was told he was no longer needed. The rest of the summer was spent attempting to sell Costa to another club, but no such sale was completed.
It was rumored that the Spaniard wanted be sold to Atletico Madrid or an Italian club like AC Milan. Unfortunately, due to Madrid’s transfer ban, the situation became extremely complex. A loan move to Everton was suggested but never went through. Now, after the transfer deadline has passed, Costa is still under contract at Chelsea.
Today he landed back in London, perhaps to attempt to make his way back into the club’s good graces. Undoubtedly, Costa is a talented striker, as he led the team in scoring the last two seasons.

However, Dean Jones of Bleacher Report has suggested that there is a chance that Costa could once again appear for the club. Chelsea listed him on their 25-man roster the other day but left him out of their Champions League squad. This foreshadowed a return as it proves he is still available to be on the roster.
Costa has spent the summer in Brazil and last appeared for the club in their defeat against Arsenal in the F.A. Cup final last season. But if this transfer window proved anything, it is that unlikely things can happen in a flash. Perhaps Costa will once again pull on a Chelsea kit, but only time will tell.
