During a press conference, Gronk answered a question about Roger Goodell in perfect fashion.

For the final question of a press conference in preparation for the New England Patriot’s season opener, Rob Gronkowski was asked what he thought about NFL commissioner Roger Gooodell attending their Week 1 game. He responded succinctly, saying “ask Tom.” Gronk then cracked up and left the podium.

Tom Brady and Goodell have obviously had a shaky relationship dating back to the Deflategate scandal. They were caught in a legal battle over Brady’s four-game suspension and his reputation. Brady lost, which forced him to miss the beginning of the 2016 NFL season.

However, in recent public appearances the two seemed cordial. They stood together for photographs as Brady was handed the trophy for Most Valuable Player. Additionally, they shook hands on the field immediately after the Patriots incredible comeback in Super Bowl LI.

This is likely why Gronk deferred any comment about Goodell to Brady, his quarterback. Gronk has long been a favorite target of the veteran passer. He has caught passes for more than 6,000 yards over his career.

This is not the first peculiar thing Gronk has said about Brady recently. In a phone interview with Sporting News, the tight end said that the Patriots quarterback will play until he is 45. This would make him the oldest starting quarterback in NFL history. George Blanda, a Hall of Famer, played until he was 48, but didn’t contribute much as a gunslinger in his final years.

The Patriots opening game is against the Kansas City Chiefs. The game will take place on NBC as the season premiere of Sunday Night Football. Kickoff is at 8:30 ET at Gillette Stadium, New England’s home field. It will be interesting to see if there is any interaction between Goodell and Brady before or after the game.
