With Jacob Eason suffering a knee injury versus Appalachian State, it’s time to meet the new starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs in Jake Fromm.
Though the Georgia Bulldogs did win their home opener 31-10 over the Appalachian State Mountaineers, it was not without a significant injury. True sophomore starting quarterback Jacob Eason had to exit the game in the first half due to a knee injury he suffered on a run out of bounds.
His replacement in true freshman Jake Fromm came in and played marvelously. Fromm completed 10 of 15 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. So who is this kid starting in place of the injured Eason versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday?
Fromm is a former four-star recruit out of Warner Robins, Georgia. He initially committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide with then defensive coordinator Kirby Smart as his primary recruiter. When Smart replaced Mark Richt as the next Georgia head coach, Fromm would follow Smart to Athens.
Fromm was a huge recruit in this 2017 class for the Bulldogs, one that was top-five across the board by most scouting sites. He enrolled early, participating in spring ball with Georgia in 2017. While Eason was the starter throughout the spring, Fromm would honestly challenge him on several occasions.
Though they are both talented passers, they offer different styles of quarterbacking. Eason has more of the power right arm. He was the most sought after recruit for Georgia since Matthew Stafford committed to the Bulldogs over a decade ago. Skill set and being out-of-state makes that comparison understandable. Eason has elite arm talent, but not overly precise as a young collegiate passer.

Fromm plays with a little more touch and has some semblance of on-field charisma. Though bigger in stature, Fromm is reminding Dawg Nation of what they once had in four-year starter Aaron Murray. Playing on the road in South Bend will be hard, but Fromm should be alright, especially with that running game he can lean on with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.
