Ty Dillon, GEICO to remain with Germain Racing
By Nick Tylwalk
Expect to see Ty Dillon back in the No. 13 Chevrolet for next season and beyond.
With all of the driver and sponsor movement that already has gone on during this particular NASCAR Silly Season, it’s almost an upset when a driver with an uncertain contract status stays with the same team. Yet that’s exactly what’s happening with Ty Dillon and the company most often on his car’s hood.
As announced today and reported by Jayski, Dillon and GEICO have both signed multi-year contract extensions with Germain Racing, keeping this particular driver/team/sponsor combination together for the foreseeable future.
Dillon is currently 24th in points in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, trailing fellow rookies Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez but well ahead of Corey LaJoie and Gray Gaulding. He’s the only driver in the top 30 in points right now without a top-10 finish, though he was on pace for one at Dover in June before wrecking late.
Regardless, Dillon has shown some consistency and mostly stayed out of trouble of his own making, and it’s not hard to see why Germain Racing would want to hang onto him.

“Ty Dillon has given us some very exciting races in his rookie season,” team owner Bob Germain Jr. said in a press release. “We have extended Ty’s contract, and look forward to crew chief Bootie Barker and Ty leading the team to more success. They will be supported by all of the same great team members who have helped build Germain Racing.”
While the team has a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing, Ty Dillon staying put raises some questions about who might fill in the seat at RCR opened up by Paul Menard leaving for the Wood Brothers team. Austin Dillon and Ryan Newman remain, but it was rumored that Ty Dillon might take Menard’s place in the No. 27 next season.
Now that it’s apparent that won’t be the case, there should be an announcement from RCR coming sooner rather than later. Just know that neither Ty Dillon nor a certain gecko will be part of it.
