Fantasy football: top 10 waiver wire Week 1 pickups
Who should you be scrambling to get off the waiver wire before the season starts?
It’s about that time. In just a few days, fantasy football is back. There’s nothing like the mayhem that ensues, and commitment to scouring the waiver will be one of the keys to winning your fantasy leagues. Here, we offer 10 players who are worth considering at the end of your benches.
10. Torrey Smith
Until they face Arizona in week five, the Eagles face four bottom-half passing defenses from last season. And with three road games in a tough start, they could be playing some catch-up ball. Both Smith and Alshon Jeffery bring veteran experience and are huge upgrades from the Eagles receivers of 2016, who didn’t manage to muster anything helpful for fantasy owners.
It seems like Smith has been around for a long time, but at 28 years old, he’s not an “oldie”. He’s coming off his worst two years as a pro, but everyone struggled in San Francisco over the last two years – what could he have done?
Smith is still a player who had three years of over 800 yards in Baltimore, and totaled 30 touchdowns as a Raven. He’s still capable of being a deep threat, and his one catch so far as an Eagle went for 50 yards and a touchdown. That in itself would provide starting numbers for your fantasy teams, and if he can do it a few times over the course of the year, he’ll be a high-reward flex play.
The Eagles offense is all change from last season, and there will be more of a focus on getting the ball in the hands of the wideouts. Carson Wentz has his deep threat, and you should grab one too.
