Tennessee found themselves down big to Georgia Tech, but they pulled out the comeback win after a goal line stand in double overtime on Monday night.

Tennessee did not look great early on against Georgia Tech on Monday night, and the 25th-ranked Volunteers looked like they were about to fall to an unranked ACC team in their season opener by the time the middle of the game rolled around.

The Volunteers were down multiple touchdowns through a lot of the game, but managed to tie things up in the fourth quarter in a blown lead that would make the Atlanta Falcons and Texas A&M proud to have some company in the world of football mishaps. With the game tied after four quarters, we got some free football, and fans should not be upset with the craziness they got to witness in OT.

After one overtime wasn’t enough, Tennessee pulled ahead in the second rather quickly to go up 42-35 over the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech bounced back with a touchdown of their own, and decided they were ready to end this thing once and for all to get home a little earlier on the night.

Georgia Tech went for two to try and win it in double overtime, but Tennessee came up big with a huge goal line stand to send the Yellow Jackets home without a win to show for their night in their season opener.

Tennessee survived a big scare with the win, and was close to rounding out the week of college football with a big loss after a huge night on Sunday night elsewhere.

They live to fight another day, but surely did not look good in the process and will need to pick things up if they can’t blow out a team like Georgia Tech to open the year.
