Tyrod Taylor clears concussion protocol, will start vs. Jets
By John Buhler
The Buffalo Bills will have their starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor ready to play Week 1 versus the New York Jets after clearing concussion protocol.
While it might be another tough season for the Buffalo Bills, they do have a bit of good news heading into Sunday’s game against the division rival New York Jets. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, “Bills [quarterback] Tyrod Taylor passed the NFL concussion protocol [Tuesday].” He should be starting Week 1 at home versus the Jets.
The Bills are a whopping 9.5-point home favorite over the rival Jets on Sunday afternoon in Orchard Park. New York has largely punted its season before it even begins. Buffalo is in a bit of a rebuild itself, but should be looking at 1-0 with Taylor under center for the Bills.
Though this might be the last year that Taylor plays in Buffalo, he is a low-end franchise quarterback in the NFL. He can win a team a handful of games, but his inconsistencies as a passer has him as the 20th to 25th-best quarterback in football.
Then again, he’s still better than what the Jets have in the veteran Josh McCown and the youngster Christian Hackenburg. McCown has played for nearly half the teams in the league as a journeyman signal caller. Though highly touted coming out of high school, Hackenburg has struggled with his accuracy at both Penn State and East Rutherford.
With Taylor in the ‘gun, the Bills have one of the most versatile rushing attacks in football. The Bills offensive line is an underrated one and running back LeSean McCoy is one of the best tailbacks in football. Buffalo usually plays the rival Jets very tough.

While both teams aren’t expected to win much in 2017, getting Taylor back to start Week 1 is huge for the Bills. Otherwise, the Bills would be looking at trotting out day three draft pick in rookie Nathan Peterman in his first career NFL start.
