The college football recruiting landscape is forever changing and this is what happened last week.
Week 1 of the college football season has come and passed and, as always, recruiting never stops. While the commitments of recruits are never set in stone, they are constantly taking place. However, that type of news usually takes a back seat during the regular season.
Don’t think that recruiting stops, though. Teams are still making moves in the recruiting rankings and coaches are constantly hosting some of the nation’s top talent at the prep level during home games. Let’s take a look at the recruiting roundup for Week 2.
Note: Latest commitments, rankings and scheduled visits come from 247Sports.
Houston lands four-star dual-threat QB
Major Applewhite has taken over for Tom Herman at Houston and he’s already recruiting at a high level like his predecessor. In fact, he landed one of the 2018 class’ top dual-threat options in four-star Julon Williams from Converse, Texas.
However, Williams is listed as an athlete, so there’s a chance he may play a different position, like wide receiver, at the college level. He’s ranked the No. 14 athlete and 274th overall recruit in the class and is an explosive talent. He held over a dozen offers.
Iowa, Iowa State battling
The two Iowa schools landed some talented recruits last week as the Hawkeyes finished with highly-touted three-star defensive back Julius Brents. The Indianapolis-native was considering a couple of other Big Ten programs as well, but landed with the Hawkeyes. He’s the No. 323 recruit in the class.
On the other hand, the Cyclones picked up two pledges. One from three-star athlete Josh Madison from California and another from three-star JUCO transfer Greg Eisworth, a safety, from Texas. Both could be instant contributors in 2018.

UCLA hits big with Jahan Dotson
Another four-star receiver picks the UCLA Bruins as Jim Mora lands his fourth such pledge in the 2018 class. Jahan Dotson had about 30 offers before picking UCLA last week and you can bet the Bruins are happy with this commitment. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound speedster is ranked the No. 118 overall recruit and 24th-best receiver in the class. The Pennsylvania-native was also considering Penn State and Alabama.
