The 50 most interesting players in European hoops: Nos. 30-21
25. Jordan McRae, SG, Baskonia
Baskonia, meanwhile, adds a former NBA champion to the mix, even if he was only the Cavs’ 13th man. McRae is a high-level scorer built to succeed at this level. He has great size at 6-foot-5 and he can create his own shot consistently, though he struggled to get those shots to go in with Cleveland. He’s a volume guy who will help fill the void left by Shane Larkin returning to the NBA. He’s a pretty solid off-ball defender as well, and that should help him pair well with Euroleague veteran Jayson Granger.
How McRae will transition to Euroleague is an unknown, but tall lead guards like him usually fair pretty well. He destroyed everything in his one year in Australia in 2014 and he was consistently one of the D-League’s strongest scoring threats. Given how up-tempo Baskonia figures to play this year under Pablo Prigioni, this should play to his strengths. Baskonia has big shoes to fill with how effective Larkin was, but McRae should be a good candidate to be able to make a difference for them and it might help him sneak back to the NBA as well.
