Florida did not have the greatest day offensively on Saturday against Michigan and the Head Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, weighed in

In one of the marquee matchups that took place during Week 1 of the college football season on Saturday, the Michigan Wolverines put on quite the impressive showing in Dallas as they defeated the two-time defending SEC East champion Florida Gators, 33-17. What was not impressive in that game was the performance of the Gators offense, which managed to gain just 92 total yards, including an abysmal nine yards rushing. Once again, another sub-par performance from Jim McElwain’s offensive unit as they were smothered by the Michigan defense all afternoon.

The Florida offense over the course of the past few years has been a stark contrast from what it was during the days Steve Spurrier was running the show in Gainesville. Spurrier’s units were literal points machines, while the recent Gators offensive units is anything but.

During an appearance on Sirius XM Radio Wednesday, Spurrier, who has since returned to be around the Florida program in retirement, weighed in on what he saw Saturday against Michigan.

Spurrier didn’t seem all too thrilled with the performance from the Gators on Saturday — you know, pretty much how every Florida fan has felt the past few seasons watching this team struggle on the offensive side of the ball.

But, Spurrier did sort of give McElwain a vote of confidence when he stated he believes the current Gators head coach knows that some changes need to be made heading into the rest of the season. And, he also alluded to the notion that this may not be the constant with the Florida offense this season, praising the performance of the Michigan defense, like many were following the end of the game on Saturday.

Still, though, it’s fun to think that maybe one game Spurrier will just get fed up, throw a headset on and start calling some fun-n-gun plays out of nowhere.
