Chiefs at Patriots: Preview, prediction, odds and pick
We’re getting ready to see the New England Patriots host the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football. Which team will prevail in this AFC powerhouse match-up?
It hasn’t been too long since the Kansas City Chiefs made an appearance at Gillette Stadium. Andy Reid’s current team came up a little short, 27-20, in the AFC Divisional Playoffs against the New England Patriots.
Then again, it has been an incredibly long time since this franchise won a road game in this series. Including the postseason, the Chiefs have dropped six straight contests away from home in this longtime rivalry. Kansas City’s last win in New England was back in 1990. That year, current Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick was busy winning a Super Bowl as a member of the New York Giants.
Of course, this is the present. And the Pats are the reigning Super Bowl champions. It’s a franchise that’s won five Lombardi Trophies since 2001. One of those was against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004 (XXXIX). It was a team led by Reid.
This will make for some interesting reminiscing on Thursday night at Foxborough.
Odds
Line: Patriots (-8.5)
Over/Under: 47.5
According to SportsBook Review, the consensus tells us the Patriots are fairly heavy favorites against a Kansas City Chiefs’ team that won a dozen games this past season and managed a 6-2 record away from home. And the team’s lone road losses in 2016 were eventual division champions Houston and Pittsburgh.

Including playoffs, the Patriots bring a 10-game overall winning streak into this tilt. They totaled at least 30 points in each of their postseason wins. And they’ve amped up their firepower thanks to some key offseason additions. Expect a game effort from Reid and company, but keeping pace with Brady and his weapons is a tall task indeed.
Pick: Patriots 31, Chiefs 16
