Jets at Bills: Preview, prediction, odds and pick

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - AUGUST 31: Bilal Powell

We’re getting ready to see the new-look Buffalo Bills play host to the rebuilding New York Jets. So which AFC East team will prevail in this contest?

After posting five consecutive wins over their longtime AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills lost a pair of games to the New York Jets. And their supposedly-tough defense was humbled by the Green and White. Consider that Todd Bowles’ team scored a combined 67 points in their first sweep of the Bills since 2011. Now ponder the fact that in the Jets’ other 14 outings, they were 3-11 and averaged a paltry 14.9 points per game.

Of course, that was with a bit of a different cast. Bowles’ team has made a lot of changes this offseason and has a new starting quarterback in Josh McCown. On the other hand, Buffalo has a new head coach once again in former Carolina Panthers’ defensive coordinator Sean McDermott. Remember, this is a franchise that hasn’t reached the NFL postseason since 1999.

Odds

Line: Bills (-5)

Over/Under: 40.5

As you can see, the Bills are a five-point favorite to knock off their divisional neighbors (thanks to SportsBook Review). And you will also notice that those in Vegas and beyond aren’t exactly looking for a shootout between two clubs that made massive personnel changes this offseason .

Expect to see some ugly football in this September tilt. You can also look for the Buffalo Bills’ offensive line to try and dominate a good Jets’ defense led up front by Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams. The Bills have led the league in rushing two straight seasons and look to get off to another solid start when it comes to this aspect of their game.

Pick: Bills 19, Jets 9
