On opening night in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs went into New England and soundly beat the Patriots 42-27 in unexpected fashion.
Well, it’s finally opening day in the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs went into New England and did a number on Bill Belichick’s defense. They put up over 500 yards and 42 points on the reigning World Champions and ruined their banner ceremony. Rookie running back Kareem Hunt looked fantastic after his opening fumble, while QB Alex Smith played as good of a game we’ve ever seen. The Patriots won’t be 16-0 this season, as they’re looking to find their first win of the season at New Orleans next weekend. There was several injuries that will be worth watching throughout the week. Patriots’ WR Danny Amendola left with a head injury and LB Dont’a Hightower didn’t return after hurting his knee. Chiefs’ S Eric Berry left the game with an Achilles injury as well.
In other news in the AFC, the Cincinnati Bengals locked up one of their defensive stars, Vontaze Burfict, to a three-year, $38 million extension. The linebacker for the Bengals may be suspended to start the season, but that’s not stopping Burfict from getting paid. Productive on the field, his biggest issue happens to be staying on the field and stopping himself from making reckless hits. Hopefully this extension and contract will correct Burfict’s past mistakes.
Roger Goodell made his yearly appearance at Foxborough, where he was met with quite a welcome. Ever since Deflategate, Patriots’ fans aren’t letting Goodell off the hook that easily. He walked onto the field with loud boos and disappeared before the coin toss. Can’t be great being the commissioner of the NFL and getting booed by the fans on a weekly basis.

Moving to the NFC, new Saints running back Adrian Peterson spoke with the media and hoped for a warm welcome in Minnesota this weekend. Peterson spent his entire career with the Vikings thus far but left in free agency when a return to Minnesota seemed unlikely. He’s starting fresh with the Saints, who will take their talents up to U.S. Bank Stadium on Monday night. Peterson is looking to be appreciated for all his time and efforts for the Vikings.
Getting back to the Patriots and injuries, earlier in the day, they placed WR Malcolm Mitchell on injured reserve with a knee injury. They’re likely going to designate him to return, which means Mitchell might re-appear later this season. He’s at least gone for the first eight weeks, though.
