In a battle of two of the better young quarterbacks in the AFC, the Oakland Raiders will head to Tennessee to take on the Titans.

Two teams that appear to be destined for the playoffs in the AFC this season are the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans, and they will do battle in Week 1 on Sunday. Both teams have stellar starting quarterbacks who were injured towards the end of last season. Both Oakland’s Derek Carr and Tennessee’s Marcus Mariota are healthy going into the season, which should make for some interesting football inside Nissan Stadium.

For the Titans, they will be looking to take over in the AFC South, a division that has been dominated by the Houston Texans as of late. Aside from Mariota, the offense features a two-headed monster at running back in DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry, and they added a wide receiver in the first round. Corey Davis has been battling a hamstring as of late, but he will be ready to go again a medocre Raiders secondary in Week 1.

The Raiders won 12 games last season, and after 15 years of poor football, it appears the organization is back. The offense is loaded with weapons, including wide receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, who are one of the best wideout tandems in the AFC. The defense is what is going to hold this team down, as the linebacker and defensive back positions are sub-par at this point.

Betting Odds

Point spread: Oakland (+2)
Over/Under: 50.5

This game has the potential to be a high-scoring affair, as the defenses for both teams are their weakness. The Raiders come into the game as an underdog, but after winning 12 games last season, they could pull off the victory on the road. Take the over in this one, but check sportsbookreview.com for the latest lines heading up to kickoff.

Prediction

The Tennessee Titans and Oakland Raiders could be division winners by the time the season comes to an end, so this is certain to be a good one. The Raiders were able to beat the Titans at  home last season, but going on the road this early in the season is another story. Carr is a true leader, and after having to watch the Raiders’ Wildcard Round loss to the Houston Texans last season, he is going to be fired up in this one.

Mariota had a breakout season in 2016, and the team went out and rewarded him by bringing in some solid weapons. Look for the passing game to be even better with the addition of Davis and the veteran Eric Decker, as they look to exploit the Raiders secondary. This will be a close one, but I see Oakland picking up  the road win in Week 1.

Final Score: Raiders 30, Titans 28
