Rapper YG and producer Mike Will Made-It got together with Adidas and one its top athletes, Von Miller, to create a new track inspired by Miller’s heartbeat to promote a new line of apparel from the thriving brand.

The growth of Adidas over the past year or so is probably not something anyone needs to be reminded of at this point. So I don’t need to discuss its surging stock price nor do I need to bother mentioning that Nike should be terrified, even though I just did both of those things.

Anyway, a week ago Adidas released the UltraBOOST Laceless. If you had your heart set on the “Core Black” version, you’re out of luck unless you have tennis rackets for feet.

This week, it’s something entirely different. Because of course it is.  It’s always something different, which certainly seems like the logical approach in keeping the attention of your consumers.

So what is it, exactly?

In short, rapper YG and producer Mike Will Made-It hit the studio to create a brand new track called “Heart of a Lion” to help promote Adidas’ new Z.N.E. Pulse apparel, with the core inspiration coming from Von Miller’s intense approach.

The above photo of Mike Will Made-It offers a good look and feel to some of the new apparel, not to mention that his scintillating watch likely cost him roughly 27 times the average mortgage payment.

From Adidas News:

"As Von gears up for the first official game of the season, when the Denver Broncos take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Mon., Sept. 11 on Monday Night Football, the track represents the rising heartbeat of athletes prior to the start of the game. The theme of the all-new collection focuses on the ‘pulse moment,’ the moment right before athletes step onto the field, a moment when their heart rate peaks in anticipation."

What I found to be pretty unique about the song itself was, according to Mike Will Made-It, Adidas recorded Von’s heartbeat in the hopes it could be incorporated into the song.

Here’s more from Mr. Made-It:

"“It’s really all about Von Miller working out — they recorded his heartbeat and asked if we could do something with that… so I took the approach of finding a tempo from his BPM and built from there. Finding something new and fresh and different, like I always do when I go in the studio and work.”"

Never did I ever think we’d be discussing how someone’s actual pulse rate served as the foundation for a rap song, but then again I’m hardly surprised.

Creativity and leaping outside the box is one of Adidas’ greatest strengths.

Now, for the song.

For me personally, “Heart of a Lion” isn’t gonna get me fired up in the tunnel quite like Eminem’s criminally underrated “Rabbit Run” would, but it’s high quality.

Also, just based on the video alone, Von looks more than ready for Monday Night Football against the Chargers.

I would honestly be willing to drop some serious cash to ensure I was never, ever tackled by this dude.

As for the new Z.N.E. Pulse Collection, it’s already available on adidas.com — links for the men’s line, women’s line, and kid’s line can be found here, here and here, respectively.
