Hoffenheim face Bayern Munich at WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena on Saturday, Sept. 9. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Last season, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title with Hoffenheim finishing fourth. After the season, the two clubs completed three transfers. Before last season ended, Bayern signed former Hoffenheim captain Sebastian Rudy and center-back Niklas Sule, while Hoffenheim signed Bayern winger Serge Gnabry on loan. After two games, Bayern are second in the table with wins over Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen. Hoffenheim are sixth, with a win over Bremen and a draw with Leverkusen.
Bayern signed James Rodriguez on loan from Real Madrid during the summer. Injuries have prevented Rodriguez from playing but he could be ready to make his Bundesliga debut Saturday. Rodriguez would likely play alongside Thiago Alcantara and provide service to Robert Lewandowski, who has three goals this season. The addition of Rodriguez has created a question about Thomas Muller’s role with Bayern after he struggled last season. Sule will likely start at center-back for an injured Jerome Boateng. Carlo Ancelotti will have to make a decision to start Rudy against his former club. Ancelotti will have to decide which two of Rudy, Joshua Kimmich and Corentin Tolisso he wants to start at right-back and defensive midfield.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side might not be as strong defensively as they were a season ago but they are still strong moving forward. Andrej Kramaric has scored twice this season and has 22 goals since moving to the club from Leicester in July 2016. Former Bayern youth player Sandro Wagner scored 15 goals last season. If Hoffenheim are going to qualify for Europe again next season, they will need Kramaric and Wagner score more goals than they did last year. However, scoring against Bayern will be very difficult for the two players, who will likely see limited opportunities.
