GLENDALE, AZ - AUGUST 12: Running back David Johnson

The Arizona Cardinals are holding their breath, along with millions of fantasy owners, awaiting the news on David Johnson and his wrist injury.

The Arizona Cardinals are hoping to bounce back from what was a disappointing 7-8-1 season last year, but they might be dealing with a serious obstacle. In the second half of their games against the Detroit Lions, Pro Bowl running back David Johnson went down, stayed down and has now left the game with what is being termed a wrist injury. His return is reportedly questionable.

Johnson is arguably the best running back in the game today along with Ezekiel Elliott and Le’Veon Bell. He’s also the best fantasy option in almost every style of league along with Bell, giving millions around the world a reason to hold their breath.

Last year, Johnson rushed for over 1,200 yards and had 80 catches for 879 yards. Without him, the Cardinals would have to rely heavily on Carson Palmer, who has looked dismal in his showing against the Lions in Week 1.

This might be the last chance for this group to win a Super Bowl in Arizona. Both Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald could be playing in their final years, while Bruce Arians has been saddled with health concerns in recent years. Arians hasn’t given any indication he’ll retire, but if the roster begins to dissipate, perhaps he would start to move in that direction.

Johnson has not been ruled out, so hopefully the issue is minor and he can continue playing great football. Otherwise, the Cardinals could be in major trouble before the season even begins.
