EA Sports has been tight-lipped about the return of NBA Live to consoles, but Sunday finally shed a little light on player ratings for the game which is scheduled for release on Friday, Sept. 15.

NBA Live 18 is going to offer gamers the opportunity to take the court in venues all over the world, but there has been almost zero information revealed thus far about some aspects of the game like player ratings.

That media blackout was compromised on Sunday when the EA Sports NBA Live Twitter account revealed which six players are highest-rated in the Dunk skill.

Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon and Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine share the game’s highest-possible rating in the skill at 99. Their exploits on the real court have demonstrated that they deserve the rating.

King James falls directly beneath Gordon and LaVine in this category with a 98 rating, and the amount of airborne highlight reels that he has produced over his years with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat are too many to count.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin rate two points lower than James in this skill at 96, but that still makes them two of the top five dunkers in the game. Given what we’ve seen from them over the years, it’s hard to argue.

Rounding out the top six is Toronto Raptors’ guard DeMar DeRozan at 95. With these six players in a NBA Live 18 slam dunk competition, the show would be quite entertaining for anyone watching on Twitch or YouTube.

While it’s possible to argue that other players might belong in this conversation, it’s going to be hard to choose which of these players gamers and fans would exclude to make room for another player. Full player ratings will be available upon the game’s release, and then the conversation can be expanded to all skills and overall ratings for the entire league.
